PUBLIC SPEAKING 3 -
Using Hands to Maximum Effect 1 - TRUST & SWORD
Have you ever been distracted by a presenter using their hands all the time?
By them continually waving them about thoughtlessly and aimlessly?
By them pumping them up & down vigorously every time they make a point?
Have you noticed how this haphazard use of their hands is not only distracting, but how it also seriously dilutes and weakens their message?
If so, I have too, which is precisely why the correct use of hands when speaking and presenting is so critical. Also, the correct use of hands at the appropriate times can significantly emphasise and strengthen our message.
When we show our palms it triggers TRUST in people’s unconscious minds. This has been wired into our brains since the beginning of time.
So, to generate trust in your audience, at appropriate times show your palms to them slightly in front of you and at about shoulder height
When we hold our index finger pointing directly upwards it represents a SWORD to emphasise specific points or nuggets of information
