DO vs DON'T

 

If I say to you “Don’t think of a chicken curry” what do you think of?

Exactly! You immediately think of a chicken curry.

Why?

Because our UNCONSCIOUS MINDS DO NOT REGISTER NEGATIVES.

When I say “Don’t think of a chicken curry” your UNCONSCIOUS mind immediately DELETES the “DON’T”

The message your CONSCIOUS mind then receives is “Think of a chicken curry” and, of course, you do.

 

This very simple distinction can have a HUGE impact in our daily lives - both personally and in business.

 

Before I learnt this I was on holiday with my family.  My two young daughters were playing on some swings. 

My younger daughter, aged about 5, decided to stand up and swing. 

I called to her “Don’t let go darling”. 

Her unconscious mind immediately deleted the “Don’t”, she let go, and fell off!

Fortunately, she was not hurt.

A telling lesson! 

What I should have called was “Hold tight darling”

 

You and your colleagues might like to try using “Please do ... “ instead of “Please don’t ... “ over, say, the next three months, and monitor the impact in your business.

Write the results down in, say, 3 critical areas -

  • Relationships
  • Performance / Productivity
  • Sales
